Santa Barbara Tiki, Mermaid and Shark Sighting

On a recent non-Tiki excursion to Santa Barbara and Solvang (Wine was the subject of this trip).   We actually had a Tiki related experience (Which I will post about soon called Not all Tikis drink rum).   We also spotted the following things near the pier in Santa Barbara.

These 2 places we ran across in an alley while trying to find the wine tasting place we were looking for.....The first a Surf Museum (in Santa Barbara??)
Here is the link to their website........

With a surf tiki guarding the entrance to this alley location.

I had to stop and take a picture of the Mermaid's chest.....Seriously who wouldn't???  This location was right next to the little alley surf museum.  We may have to stop here the next time we are in town and not searching for wine.

On the way back from Solvang we decided to stop on the pier in Santa Barbara where we saw a giant whale....Moby Dick to be more precise....

I'm always on the lookout for sharks.

There was a cool typical Beach city knick -knack shop that was connected to another wine bar with an ocean view that we will have to hit up the next time we are in town --since we were all wined out at this point.  I love the cool old school style advertisement.

Here is the cool little ocean view wine bar

Random Tiki sighting in Alhambra

After almost running out of gas after leaving the Huntington Library we ended up lost and by divine intervention from the Tiki gods we somehow drove through Alhambra and the Kahlua apartments which  ---after seeing the slanted roof tops ... I glanced over and then had to pull over to the side of the rode in order to capture the moment.   The tiki gods had lead me down this wayward road for a reason.  Tiki's were to be found...

This tiki was trying to hide in the bushes

They even had a waterfall in front of the place.

Just a remindar ----all Paths eventually lead to Tiki.

Song of the week: Do the Ski with Me... (From Winter A Go-Go)

"If there is a tree--turn your ski"    Cheesy lyrics but a whole lotta fun......."If there is a bump you gotta jump"....You have to love those Santa's helper Go-Go outfits

Retro Movie Review: Winter a Go-Go 1965 6 out of 10

Someone got the idea of taking the Beach movie up to the ski lodge.  Winter a Go-Go as a movie didn't really have much of a plot.  A guy inherits a lodge in Lake Tahoe---hires a bunch of 1960's hotties to help run the place.   Like many of the beach movies it has a bunch of random musical performances--some good some not so much.  It has a loose plot of some bad guy that wants their lodge to fail and sends a couple of toughs to intimidate the 2 main characters.  This lame plot line leads to a couple of fun scenes like a Wild West style bar fight in the Coke bar (apparently they didn't get a liquor license).  There is also a silly fight on the slopes while skiing at each other waving their poles at one another--that was so dumb that it was good.  The movie is full of ski bunnies and impromtu dance numbers and laughing girl crazy Chinese chefs. It is kind of fun for a movie with no real story what so ever.  It could have been a much better movie if someone had bothered to write a script for the movie.
