Tiki Oasis 2017 Part 3 The Music, The Hula Girls, The Untouchables, APE, 5.6.7.8's

Before Tiki Oasis even started I knew that there was one room Part that I had to go to.  My wife volunteered to watch the baby.  I knew that if I went to this one room my Tiki Oasis 2017 was going to be a success.

Of coure there are always a couple of Surprises at Tiki Oasis
The infamous Mr Tiki Head was ready to party

I'm a huge Devo fan and have seen Devo many times.  So when I heard there was going to be a  band doing a Lounge version of Devo I was all in.

MongoLounge was very entertaining.

Here they are taking a break in the middle of a song

APE Featuring the live carvings of Crazy AL was back on the main stage this year

Then what I had been waiting for The Hula Girls

And the Untouchables in a room party.  So freaking awesome.  My weekend was complete.

Farewell Don The Beachcomber in Sunset Beach : Ohana Celebration

I wanted to write  something about Don the Beachcomber closing down, but I just realized that whatever I would be able to say about it wouldn't mean as much as  the words from the people that it is more connnected with like some of the bands.   All the times we have gone there would just pale in comparison to what I’ve already read online that sums this establishment up better than I could.

To really understand what a loss this is to the tiki community see the post by The Hula Girls singer Spike that I shared on my Pineappleman facebook page.

I expect he will probably write something for his blog as well.

I also saw something cool written by Tikiyaki Orchestra (who we saw at a show there on New Year's Ever back when 2008 turned into 2009.

When I went live to record a little bit of the show I saw that Adrian Eustaquio briefly watched my faceboo live.   I can't wait to hear his thoughts on Don's Closing on one of his upcoming podcasts.  If you don't listen already you should be.  Here is the link to his page.

Instead I just thought I’d share some pictures of our last trip there for the 10 year Ohana Celebration Friday night.

There was entertainment all night throughout Don's.  In the Dagger Bar the Outerwaves were playing and the Breakaways and Driving Guitars were in the Long Board room.  We had good seats in the main room so stayed put.

Kicking the night off was Ukulena.  I'd never seen her before and was surprised at how good see was.  When I heard she played an electric Uke --I envisioned a female version of Tiny Tim.
Instead we got some really good Tiki, Rockabilly with a little bit of a Gwen Steffani vibe.
I posted a couple of videos on the facebook page.

Up next a band that I am familiar with from Tiki Oasis.
The Ding Dong Devils took the stage and played some songs off their newest album and of course my personal favorite The Jungle Doctor.

The mysterious Mr Tiki Head was in attendance.

What will miss the most about Don's is that it was our local place to see one of our favorite Tiki bands.  The band that I have seen now more times than any other.  The Hula Girls.  I'm sure we will see them somewhere else -- like Tiki Oasis,  but the Dagger bar or one of the shows like Curse of the Tiki at Halloween were some of our favorites.

Here they are with Burelesque dancer  Madeline Sinclaire.

And then rocking out with their go-go dancers.
I posted several short videos of their performance on Facebook.

It was an amazing night that I will never forgot. So sad that we are losing this local Tiki haven.
I've compiled a bunch of pictures from Don's where over the years into a single folder on Facebook and will probably add a few more when i find them.

Curse of the Tiki 2: Strange Hallucinations

I was just sitting at home last night drinking some Rum when the strangest thing happened.   My Television turned on and there was a strange old broadcast with some Skeletons playing music.

A Mad Scientist appeared on the flickering screen and I saw bunch of random images.  It looked like some old Retro TV Program.  He mumbled something about "Beware the of the Curse of the Tiki"

The Images on the Screen started to become deformed and the lights in my room began to flicker

The room began to swim around me.

I passed out and awoke again in this strange room filled with people and the images I had seen on the old television broadcast were right before my eyes.

Like some strange dream the things I saw I just could not believe.

A Fire Dancer was on the stage....Playing with Fire like it was something alive.

Then like something out of a nightmare.....I felt like I was witnessing Sardu's Torture Show from Blood Sucking Freaks.

The Human Pin Cushion act was just too much to take.   But luckily there were Tiki drinks available at this bizarre place.

Unforunately these drinks did nothing to help my delusions.
One of my favorite bands appeared before me --but they had been turned into Monkey Men.  Was this the work of some Cursed Tiki that was causing this madness?

I recognized one of the Hula Girls Dancing girls, but even she seemed to have succumbed to the madness as her eyes glowed red.

I prayed to the Tiki Gods to let this crazy world be just a dream.   I didn't want The Hula Girls to be Monkey Men...what if they turned into Monkey Men permanently and started telling bad monkey jokes or something.   This couldn't happen to one of my favorite bands.

The Tiki Gods must have listened as a Ghostly Dancer took the stage and The Hula Girls were suddenly Men again.

The room I was in began to flicker again as see danced....Was it just the rum or was something happening again.

The Room Froze in front of me and began to change colors

The stage exploded into a thousands streams of light.

I awoke in the darkness...Safe in my home...Was this just a dream?????

.I turned on the light and beside my bed was a vintage postcard .
I turned the card over and all it said was "Wish you were here"
It was written in my own handwriting
